Chelsea came from behind to see off Southampton in a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge. The Saints caused a stir when Jay Rodriguez scored after just 13 seconds, having been played through by a disastrous backpass from Michael Essien, and they held on well to keep their lead until half-time.

However, goals from centre-backs Gary Cahill and John Terry either side of an injury to influential keeper Artur Boruc saw Chelsea seize control of the game in an impressive second-half display.

They confirmed the win on the stroke of the 90th minute as Demba Ba applied a fine finish to Ramires's cross.
