Sources said the Boeing 747 cargo aircraft burst into flames but fire was promptly put out at the airport.Joe Obi, the spokesperson of Nigeria’s ministry of aviation, confirmed the incident but added that the plane landed safely.
He said: “A Saudi Arabian B747 cargo aircraft landed safely in Abuja this night but finished the maneuvering area of the runway and ran into a maintenance area of the runway and stopped. There are no casualties. Plans are on to move the air craft after the AIB’s visit soon.”
Currently air travellers are stranded all over the country as no airline is allowed to land at the Abuja International Airport, Airport authorities have asked for calm as they move the ;cargo plane from the runway, they insist normal air schedules will resume in some hours, our reporter confirmed that Airlines are allowed to leave Abuja but none allowed to land.
