Andre Villas-Boas has become embroiled in a war of words with former Tottenham chairman Lord Alan Sugar after he hit out at the entrepreneur for comments he made on Twitter. The Spurs boss came in for criticism last week following his side's 6-0 defeat against Manchester City a little over a week ago which left them off the pace in the top four race, with some reports suggesting he could lose his job. Sugar, who has been openly critical about Villas-Boas in the past, also piled in on the Portuguese boss, lambasting his tactics and suggesting that former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson should come out of retirement to take over at White Hart Lane. "I’ve struggled to understand AVB’s tactics,” Sugar wrote before the City defeat. “You wonder how we are going to get a goal. Four, five or even six games before you couldn’t see where the goals were coming from. “The formation that AVB plays, I don’t understand at all. My dream would be that my good friend Sir Alex Ferguson will get itchy feet in about a year or so and decide he wants to get back into management.” Tottenham provided a reposte of sorts with a much-improved performance in their 2-2 draw with Manchester United yesterday - and AVB, who had previously laughed off Sugar's claims regarding Ferguson, had a few choice words for the businessman after the game at White Hart Lane. When responding to a question regarding the Tottenham fans booing his decision to substitute Aaron Lennon in the second half, he said: “It’s their team, their passion and they don’t trade it for anything else, not like Alan Sugar who trades it for money.” Sugar responded to Villas-Boas's comments last evening, by comparing them to Eric Cantona's famous remarks after he was suspended for kicking a fan. He wrote: "CAN ANYONE TRANSLATE? Dear AVB all I can say about your comment is. " when the seagulls follow the trawler......" Former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker answered Sugar's remarks by saying: Think he's talking about the club and how you sold it for a profit? The Tottenham boss was also involved in a confrontation with Daily Mail journalist Neil |Ashton, who claimed during the week that AVB was on the verge of losing his job.
